The sleep service at University College Hospital (UCH) is run within the department of Thoracic Medicine. It has particular expertise in the diagnosis and management of ventilatory disorders during sleep, including obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome, sleep disordered breathing, and assessment of respiratory failure. The service offers a full range of diagnostic and treatment options and has established links with bariatric services in UCH and ENT services at the Royal National Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital, ensuring a multidisciplinary approach. Patients with sleep respiratory disorders are reviewed in a dedicated clinic, allowing an expert and consistent approach to their management. Patients can be screened using home sleep equipment or in dedicated sleep study beds. Those with confirmed obstructive sleep apnoea are offered treatment with CPAP and are supported by an open access service to the sleep technicians.
